Poverty is not an accident, which means it can be unmade. It is our goal to present the solutions to poverty in a follow-up documentary to THE END OF POVERTY?

TO END POVERTY! will present 10 groups of solutions that can end poverty in this lifetime.

When we traveled with and spoke to the exporters in THE END OF POVERTY?, we asked them what types of real solutions would end poverty. Some might seem obvious: The guarantee of shelter, healthcare, education, food, and drinking water. While others would require the upending of our hyper-capitalistic society such as: a basic minimum income—regardless of employment—as a fundamental human right, which would not cost that much to implement.

TO END POVERTY! would be constructed from the conversations with these experts as well as new interviews with individuals and organizations spearheading new movements in the US and abroad . Together, they become Ten Solutions to End Poverty. Read more...


JOHN CHRISTENSEN - John Christensen is a development economist and former economic adviser to the UK and Jersey governments. Christensen has researched tax havens and tax policy for many years. He has also played a leading role in campaigning for tighter regulation and control of tax havens and offshore finance centers. He is a fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce and is based at the New Economics Foundation, London. His work for the Tax Justice Network is funded by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust.

CLIFFORD COBB - A former interim Executive Director of the Robert Schalkenbach Foundation, and President of the Foundation's board of trustees. He edited the "Path to Justice: Following in the Footsteps of Henry George", and served as a senior fellow at Redefining Progress (RP), a nonprofit organization in Oakland, California. At RP, Mr. Cobb developed the Genuine Progress Indicator (a measure of national economic welfare). He is also the author of "The Roads Aren't Free: Estimating the Full Social Costs of Driving and the Effects of Accurate Pricing" and several other nationally published articles.

WILLIAM EASTERLY - Professor of Economics at New York University, joint with Africa House, and Co-Director of NYU’s Development Research Institute. He is also a non-resident Fellow of the Center for Global Development in Washington DC and Visiting Fellow at Brookings during the academic year 2007-2008. He spent sixteen years as a Research Economist at the World Bank. He is on the board of the anti-malaria philanthropy, Nets for Life. He is the author of "The White Man's Burden: How the West's Efforts to Aid the Rest Have Done So Much Ill and So Little Good", "The Elusive Quest for Growth: Economists' Adventures and Misadventures in the Tropics", and 3 other co-edited books, and 59 articles in refereed economics journals.

SUSAN GEORGE, the author of more than a dozen books, was born in the United States, lives in/near Paris and acquired French citizenship in 1994. She is Chair of the Planning Board of the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam, a decentralized fellowship of scholars living throughout the world whose work is intended to contribute to social justice and who are active in civil society in their own countries. Between 1999 and mid-2006 she served as Vice-President of ATTAC France [Association for Taxation of Financial Transaction to Aid Citizens]. Her most recent book is "Hijacking America: How the Religious and Secular Right Changed What Americans Think" [forthcoming, Polity Press 2008].
