Poverty is not an accident, which means it can be unmade. It is our goal to present the solutions to poverty in a follow-up documentary to THE END OF POVERTY?

TO END POVERTY! will present 10 groups of solutions that can end poverty in this lifetime.

When we traveled with and spoke to the exporters in THE END OF POVERTY?, we asked them what types of real solutions would end poverty. Some might seem obvious: The guarantee of shelter, healthcare, education, food, and drinking water. While others would require the upending of our hyper-capitalistic society such as: a basic minimum income—regardless of employment—as a fundamental human right, which would not cost that much to implement.

TO END POVERTY! would be constructed from the conversations with these experts as well as new interviews with individuals and organizations spearheading new movements in the US and abroad . Together, they become Ten Solutions to End Poverty. Read more...

THE EXPERTS (continued)

CHALMERS JOHNSON is president of the Japan Policy Research Institute, a non-profit research and public affairs organization devoted to public education concerning Japan and international relations in the Pacific. He taught for thirty years, 1962-1992, at the Berkeley and San Diego campuses of the University of California and held endowed chairs in Asian politics at both of them. He is a fierce critic of American imperialism as a new form of global empire and has written numerous books including, most recently, three examinations of the consequences of American Empire: "Blowback", "The Sorrows of Empire", and "Nemesis: The Last Days of the American Republic". "Blowback" won the 2001 American Book Award of the Before Columbus Foundation.

SERGE LATOUCHE is an emeritus professor at the University of Paris-Orsay, one of the historical contributors to the magazine MAUSS and the director of research for the Group in Anthropology, Epistemology, and Economy of Poverty (GRAEEP). He is also the founder of the non-profit organization, La ligne d'horizon, and is a specialist of the economic relationship between North and South. He has developed a critical theory which denounces "economism" and the notion of durable development which he considers a fraud. He is the leading His main books include: "The Other Africa: Between Aid and Market", "The Occidentalization of the World", "To Survive Development", "The Invention of Economy", and "The Gamble of De-growth".

ALVARO GARCIA LINERA - A former guerilla and intellectual, Linera became the Vice President of Bolivia in the 2005 election that nominated Evo Morales as the first indigenous president.
