Poverty is not an accident, which means it can be unmade. It is our goal to present the solutions to poverty in a follow-up documentary to THE END OF POVERTY?

TO END POVERTY! will present 10 groups of solutions that can end poverty in this lifetime.

When we traveled with and spoke to the exporters in THE END OF POVERTY?, we asked them what types of real solutions would end poverty. Some might seem obvious: The guarantee of shelter, healthcare, education, food, and drinking water. While others would require the upending of our hyper-capitalistic society such as: a basic minimum income—regardless of employment—as a fundamental human right, which would not cost that much to implement.

TO END POVERTY! would be constructed from the conversations with these experts as well as new interviews with individuals and organizations spearheading new movements in the US and abroad . Together, they become Ten Solutions to End Poverty. Read more...

TIMELINE (continued)

1997

The first official G8 Summit of the leaders of the richest and most powerful countries was held. Before this it was G7 (and G6 even earlier) until Russia joined the group for this summit.





1999

The WTO conference in Seattle was protested by thousands of people which eventually led to the collapse of the conference.





January 2001

The first ever World Social Forum happened as a platform for countries not included in the G8.





July 2001

Over 200,000 people attended protests in Genoa, Italy during the G8 conference.





2003

Developing countries walked out of the WTO conference when it became clear that the real agenda was to expand the failed WTO model. Lee Hyung Kae, leader of the Korean Federation of Advanced Farmers Association sacrificed himself to protest the WTO.




2008 to Present

In the U.S., the sub-prime mortgage crises, triggers a global financial crisis. Tax payers, and therefore poor people, were forced to rescue the banks and other financial institutions in the form of government bailouts. Six months later, these institutions were once again profitable and paying out millions of dollars in bonuses to the executives who brought the crash on in the first place.
