SYNOPSIS
Nelly Arcan shocked the literary world with elegant phrasing and lurid details of sex work in her semi-autobiographical first novel, Putain (Whore), which became an international best-seller in 2001. A prostitute by choice, Nelly’s fragmented life is laid bare in a stylish mix of make-believe and memoir, revealing a woman lost between irreconcilable identities: the neurotic writer, the vulnerable lover, the call girl and the star. Despite literary success, the French Canadian’s remarkable life ended in tragedy.

Anne Émond lives and works in Montreal. Between 2005 and 2011, she wrote and directed seven short films, NAISSANCES and SOPHIE LAVOIE among them, which screened at several international festivals and won many prizes. In 2011, she directed her first feature film, NUIT #1, which screened at more than twenty-five international film festivals, including Busan, Rotterdam, Taipei and the TIFF. The film won several prizes and citations, including Best First Feature at the 2012 Genie Awards and has been sold to ten countries, most notably France and the United States. LES ÊTRES CHERS, her second feature in 2015, was also well-received and acclaimed (Locarno, TIFF, Le Gala du Cinéma Québécois, Canadian Screen Awards). Her latest film, NELLY, liberally adapted from the life and work of Quebec writer Nelly Arcan, for which she also wrote the screenplay, started strongly with TIFF & FIFF January 20, 2017

Nicole Robert is the founder and president of Go Films and has produced 29 features and the TV series LA VIE, LA VIE. Robert has won the Jutra Awards for Best Film with QUÉBEC-MONTRÉAL, the Gemini Awards for Best Drama Series with LA VIE, LA VIE, the Olivier Awards for Best Comedy with HORLOGE BIOLOGIQUE, the Award for Best Canadian Film in Toronto for REQUIEM POUR UN BEAU SANS COEUR and the GOLDEN REEL AWARD with her first feature film LA GUERRE DES TUQUES. Eight of her films have hit $1 million at the Québec box office.
