OLIVIER KOWALSKI'S BIO

www.LifeAfterDjango.com

In 1968, Olivier Kowalski, a classically trained musician, established Komintern, a legendary group whose album, The Ball of the Dead Rat, became a collector's item and sold over 50,000 copies due to its influences from free jazz and rock; also because it was signed to The Beatles' record label, Pathe-Marconi. The group was also at the forefront of various social movements of the '70s. Kowalski then became bassist for a folk rock group called Malicorne, which sold over 2 million albums worldwide (U.S. and European tours). He eventually convinced the group to write its own music; Etienne Roda-Gil would write and sign for the album called Swing on Fire, which Kowalski produced.

In 1981 he signed on to make an album on Virgin Records called Photocopies. Followed by a one-year tour and many television and radio appearances, he began to move towards film, which has now become his passion. Kowalski became director of the music publishing company, Plain Films Field with Philippe Diaz and worked on the music for films including: "Bad Blood" by Leos Carax, "Candy Mountain" by Robert Frank, "Bengali Night" by Nicolas Klotz and "Peter and Djemila" by Gerard Blain.

In 1987 he became head of Davout Studios, the preferred studio to record the music for French cinema. In 1994, he bought the studio, which he currently manages today.
